Transitioning Body Pilates

This specialized Pilates class has been developed to meet the varied fitness needs of all individuals. Whether or not you are new to pilates, recovering from an injury, regaining your strength after a new baby, or are a seasoned athlete, this class will give you a safe workout with a kick while transitioning into the next phase of you! Expert instruction from our specialized Pilates instructors allows you to regain essential flexibility, increase your core and upper body strength, and help encourage great posture. A limited class size allows our instructor to individualize the class to meet the needs of the group! This mat class will often utilize rollers, bands, balls and small apparatus to keep you challenged.

Healthy Neck & Shoulders

This class is formatted to meet the needs of our everyday stress! Melt away the tension in your shoulders and experience more ease and flexibility in your neck. Based on the principles of Pilates, this class will build supportive upper body strength while helping to maintain the natural alignment and flexibility of the neck and spine. Incorporating resistive bands, foam rollers, and weights makes this a great workout as well. The reduction of headaches and jaw problems may be an added bonus! Limit 10 per class.

Team Survivor Class

SD REHAB in conjunction with TEAM Survivor Chicago is proud to present this FREE exercise class designed specially for the needs of cancer survivors. Increase your cardiovascular endurance, improve your general flexibility and strength and have the professional and personal support you need to excel. We believe that exercise and community are an essential part of the healing process for those living with cancer. Class to be held at SD Rehab on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at 6:30pm beginning November 2, 2009.

Postural Pilates

Designed by a rehabilitation specialist with vast knowledge of the body's anatomy and natural alignment, this class can only improve your posture! With this beginner's level class using various small equipment and Pilates mat exercises you will increase your overall flexibility, learn where core strength comes from and know how to maintain healthy postural alignment and strength. Look and feel better! Limit 10 per class.

Baby & Me Pilates

$20 per class or package of 6 for $100.

Taught by a Women's Specialist and Pilates instructor, a safe and effective way to keep mom and baby healthy and have fun at the same time. Come tone your body, strengthen your core and relieve stress while bonding with your baby and meeting other moms! Appropriate for babies 6 weeks to "crawlers". Pre/Postnatal Pilates

$20 per class or package of 6 for $100.

Taught by a Women's Health Specialist and Pilates instructor, this course is a safe way to keep your body in shape throughout your pregnancy and after. A limited class size and expert instruction allows you to safely maintain your flexibility, increase core strength and pelvic floor muscle activation while avoiding common discomforts such as low back pain. All participants in prenatal pilates must have a signed release form from their physician in order to participate. A prior knowledge of Pilates is not required.

Header Workshops

Spring Cleansing: Introduction to Detox Diets with Kelly Hoogenakker

Monday 4/19/10: First class in series of three
6:30pm-7:45pm

Join Kelly Hoogenakker as she introduces the basics of cleansing and fasting. This is the perfect way to kick-start a weight-loss plan, reset your body after winter illness, strengthen your immune functions and reconnect with your spiritual side. Learn 5 simple cleansing diets that you can follow using regular food; no expensive supplements needed. After learning the basics, you can choose to participate in the group cleanse, taking full advantage of the personal support you will get from Kelly and the rest of the class, or you can save the information for later when you feel ready to use it.

Cost: $45 for first class

Follow up classes: Monday April 26th and Monday May 3rd 6:30-7:45pm
Cost for all three classes only $120

This 3-week workshop will take each participant from planning a custom detox diet through implementation and transition back to a healthier, refreshed life.

Food For Baby with Kelly Hoogenakker, Holistic Health Coach, AAD

Learn how to make the most of your time in the kitchen as you give your baby the benefits of fresh, local foods that are homemade delicious! This introductory course is based on information detailed in Super Baby Food by Ruth Yaron.

Make some or all of your baby's food at home Introduce a wider variety of foods: local; natural; organic; your favorites Help your baby learn to love the way YOU cook! Time-saving and money-saving tips. Find out what gear you need to have, and some items you may want to have. Get a handy schedule of foods you can introduce over the first year. Plus get some reviews of ready made baby foods now on the market for those times when you need a little help.

Week Two: 1/30/10

Infant Massage with Abagail Savage

Join licensed and certified infant massage therapist Abigail Savage in her Art of Infant Massage workshop. Abigail will guide you and your baby through hands-on techniques that foster the positive effects of massage in early development. Nurture a deeper and more intimate bonding experience with your baby through eye-to-eye contact, smiling, soothing vocal sounds and loving touch in this explorative hour. Both parents and baby are welcome.

Intro to Natural Childbirth with Juli Walter

When it comes to your birthing experience go into labor with options at hand. In this introductory class natural childbirth educator and certified doula Juli Walter brings her own personal and varied birthing experiences and expertise to you. Come and learn about the resources that are available during this special time of your life including childbirth classes, natural childbirth practitioners and doula services. Let this class serve as a first stepping stone in being the creator of your own birthing plan. First time expectant and experienced parents are welcome!

Intro to Breastfeeding with Juli Walter

Are you planning to breast feed your baby, but are discouraged by the mixed reviews from moms who've gone before you? Make the best decision for yourself after taking Juli's Introduction to Breast Feeding class. As well as being a mom to 4, Juli is also a lactation consultant and brings her personal experience and professional expertise to you in a relaxed and frank conversational format. Come and learn about the benefits of breastfeeding, how to get off to a great start and where to turn for help if problems develop. All parents are welcome.

The Healthy Pelvis and Core with Nicole Furno BS PTA

SD Rehab Women's Health specialist, certified pilates instructor and mom Nicole Furno will be addressing Pelvic Health and Core Strength in this 1 hour class for women. No matter what your age maintaining a healthy and properly functioning pelvic floor and strong core can make the world of difference in everyday activity. Nicole will focus on exercises for the pelvic floor --what are those Kegel exercises again?-- and address how core strength can prevent incontinence, pelvic pain, sciatica and pubic symphysis weakness before, during and after pregnancy. Great information that your OB/GYN should be telling you and a great workout as well!

Week six: 2/27/10

Why Pilates with Jess Swoyer Green
10:30am-11:30am

Join SD Rehab's certified pilates instructor Jess Swoyer Green for a deeper understanding of why pilates is an excellent method of exercise before, during and after your pregnancy; also clear up some of those misconceptions of what women can and cannot do to stay in shape during pregnancy. Discover why certain exercises are excellent for maintaining strength; how to encourage the ideal postural alignment as your center of gravity shifts and how to ease some of the typical discomforts pregnancy brings as your body grows. Different props will be incorporated throughout your workout as you explore pilates from the pregnant perspective. All pre/postnatal women are welcome.
